Helen Joyce Johnson
April 17, 1937 ~ May 10, 2019

Helen J. Johnson, age 82, was born April 17, 1937 at a birthing home in Crosby, North Dakota. Growing up on a farm, she attended a one room school house, then graduated from Crosby High School in 1955. After high school, Helen moved to Fargo and attended Interstate Business College. While there, she met the love of her life and husband of nearly 62 years, Vernon Johnson. They were married on June 15, 1957 and moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana, a week later. They also lived in Southfield, Michigan, Bloomington, Minnesota, and wintered in Sun City West, Arizona. Before their first daughter was born, Helen worked as a secretary for the telephone company. As the girls grew older, she went back to work at Southdale Audiology as their office manager. Helen was a willing participant in all activities and musical events. She loved the old Christian hymns and anything by Neil Diamond. Her competitive spirit made her a card player extraordinaire and an excellent golfer—having had 3 hole in 1's. Beyond that, her favorite activity had to be shopping. Petite and pretty, she was always stylish and manicured. Those traits were shown in her beautiful handwriting and immaculate housekeeping as well. "Lazy" was not a word in Helen's vocabulary, believing every day was an opportunity to meet with friends, family, garden, dance, or a million other things. Survived by husband, Vernon; sister, Dorene (Duane) Wenstad; daughters, Sheryl (Buckley) Simmons and Heidi (Brad) Hoyt; 5 grandchildren who adored their Nana: Alexis, Courtney, Parker, Celeste and Chloe; 4 step-grandchildren; many cousins, nieces, nephews and lifelong friends. Welcoming Helen to her eternal home with Jesus are her three sisters Leora, Audrey and Maysil; parents, Mildred and Gehard Anseth.
