N. Heman Odt
April 14, 1921 ~ March 3, 2014

Nelson Heman Odt was born on April 14, 1921, in Geneva, Illinois. When Heman was in high school, he played baseball and tennis on the school teams. He applied for Officers Training School. He attended and graduated from Brown University, where he also played tennis and baseball. In 1945, Heman was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Navy. In the following years Heman lived in Stanley, WI; Elizabeth City, NC; and Mpls, MN, where he was employed as an accountant. While living in the Minneapolis area, Heman had two
children, Christine Lois Odt and Nelson Leonard Odt.  He and his family began living in Wayzata in 1952, where Chris was born, and they moved to Minnetonka in 1956, where Nelson was born.  During Chris and Nelson's growing up years in Tonkawoodcroft, Heman owned and operated ODT Business Forms.

In 1979 Heman married Dee and taught her the business, as well as how to play golf and tennis. They were members of the Minnetonka Country Club for 12 years and the Northfield Golf Club for 19 years. Heman was also a member of the Minnetonka Racquet Club, where he played tennis weekly. Heman sold his business and retired in 1998, after which he and Dee traveled a lot and enjoyed their life together.

Heman went to be with the Lord on March 3, 2014, joining his loved ones who preceded him: parents Jennie and Albert Odt, brother Alden, grandson Alex, and niece Susan.  He will be missed by his loving wife, Dee, of 34 years; sister-in-law Genevieve Odt of Batavia, IL; son Nelson (Susan) Odt, granddaughter Liza (Joel) Heinen, and great-grandson Jude of Excelsior; daughter Christine Odt and granddaughter Emily of Madison, WI; step-daughter Diane (David) Davenport and grandchildren Jessica and Nicholas of Cedar Lake, IN;  step-son Dean (Anita) Forrest and grandchildren Drew and Nathan of Brooklyn Park; and many other relatives and friends. Uncle Hemie will also be missed by neices and nephews in Batavia, IL; Boyds, MD; and Missoula MT.
